An adorable six-year-old boy has met President Obama in the White House after a letter he wrote offering to help and befriend a young Syrian refugee boy went viral. Alex Myteberi, dressed in a dapper new suit, was wide-eyed as he shook hands with Obama for the first time in the Oval Office last week.
The young boy wrote a letter to Obama in August asking the President if a five-year-old Syrian boy affected by the civil war could come and live with his family in Edgemont, New York.
Omran Daqdeesh became an iconic image of the horrific conflict in Syria after he was pictured covered in blood and dust after his house in Aleppo was destroyed in a blast.
‘Remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria?’ Alex wrote in his letter to Obama. ‘Can you please go get him and bring him to our home? Park in the driveway or on the street and we will be waiting for you guys with flags, flowers, and balloons.’
He said he would teach Omran English, invite him to birthday parties and share his toys.
‘We will give him a family and he will be our brother,’ Alex wrote.
Alex and his family, including little sister Catherine, were visiting the White House when Obama unexpectedly thanked him for being ‘so nice and kind’.
